windpig Chopped liver More info | Jan 13, 2017 20:05 | #3182 AnnieMacD wrote in post #18243089 Yes, I was thinking about it. I think it depends a lot on the angle and modifier he was using, and whether it was already feathered. Just so many variables. But when feathering (in my understanding) the height of the light source won't change and I think that's the principal issue here. Another option would be to lower the light slightly but I would have asked her to tip her head up a bit. So I stand by my 'maybe'! I understand what you're saying, but I think the light height isn't necessarily to high, the nose shadow isn't crossing into her upper lip. Feathering won't work without a modifier with spill control anyway. Would you like to buy a vowel?

No, I don't think it was too high. I actually forgot my reflector holder that day and I had her mom holding the reflector! There just wasn't enough fill or at least not as much as I normally would. In the end I liked the resulting higher lighting ratio. ~Steve~

I know everyone is always pounding sharpness, sharpness....but I think, in some cases, a little softness is the way to go. David Hamilton was very successful making pictures that were a touch soft. Missed focus. Hair is razor sharp just behind the face on the left side. Still a nice pic though. -- Mark | Gear | Flickr

AnnieMacD Oops, me again More info | Jan 15, 2017 12:23 | #3191 ptcanon3ti wrote in post #18245082 Nope. No work on her eyes. Very little work on her at all really. I had the same feeling about here eyes - the left (her left!) one in particular. I think the problem is that the left side of her face is quite a bit darker than the right but the eye is just as bright as the right one. It may be that you had the hair light catching in her eye? Not sure, but it does look a wee bit strange. Nice image nonetheless.

saea501 ... spilled over a little on the panties More info | Jan 15, 2017 13:10 | #3192 I think what is happening is that a light source is hitting the iris on the same plane. That is a light source at 90 degrees to her line of sight. So it is highlighting the irregularities of the iris. Remember what the DorMouse said.....feed your head.
