He shoots at f1.2, so it's a normal blur for that killer lens ![]() But I might be wrong. PExpo (he or she ... since they are husband and wife team as I recall) shot these using the 85mm f/1.2 L ... they also posted them in a lens-specific forum. They look to have been shot with the aperture wide open. Depth of field at 85mm f/1.2 is scarily narrow at these shooting distances with the effect being maximised by the choice of background and its oblique angle across the plane of focus. David.

Depth of field at 85mm f/1.2 is scarily narrow at these shooting distances with the effect being maximised by the choice of background and its oblique angle across the plane of focus. These are great examples of what this lens can deliver ... although it's perhaps a matter of taste whether to blur the background to this extent. I like it, myself. itsallart wrote in post #18572578 Talking about the images by PExpo? He shoots at f1.2, so it's a normal blur for that killer lens ![]() But I might be wrong. I thought they always favored the 135.. Ron Snarski

These were apparently shot with the 85 f/1.2 L. At this shooting distance and using a wide aperture, depth of field is nothing with that lens. But I do wonder if there is some additional manipulation going on in post. The swirl in the bukeh is almost Helios-like. Check his flicker links under each image and you will see the EXIF. Renata

Interesting ... getting pretty much the same effect. I assume without additional manipulation of blur in post. David.

I assume without additional manipulation of blur in post. I have the 85 f/1.2 L and it is by far my favourite lens for portraits. But, even shooting wide-open, I always tend to look for neutral and unobtrusive backgrounds and have never experimented with backgrounds that include as much contrast and colour as some of these. Looks like I should maybe be bolder! You should! Image hosted by forum (901914) © itsallart [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. Renata
