Doing some quick work for a LinkedIn workshop for people without headshots. Two Godox AD200's one in a softbox one behind an umbrella. Catch light tells it all. Background lit by spill...

This wasn't how this shoot was meant to go, but the little...so-and-so wouldn't stand still.

It's perfect! Love the lighting. I was once doing some group shots and I placed a marker on the floor so that my lights hit them at approx 45 degrees from each side. Well, the marker got moved and most ended up being sidelit from both sides. Some of the images were better than they would have been (more atmosphere) but with multiple people the shadows were dreadful. I think in your case it worked out for you.

His expression also seems to suit the darker mood of this image.

Photographers are violent people, first they frame you, then they shoot you and after that they hang you on the wall.

Had the opportunity though to shoot with a model that a friend of mine brought out with him to some of his shoots. We are all from az but we were visiting California.
Shot at Santa Monica Pier.

Canon 7D Mk2, Sony A7iii, Canon 85mm f1.8, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS mk1, Sigma 17-55mm f2.8, Tamron 28-75iii, a few flashes and many modifiers
