I've collected a few more images after my last thread filled with wonderful advice from those who know hummers. I've still got a ways to go to be completely happy with what I'm doing but I hope everyone can see at least some improvement over last weeks efforts. As Bret has me trained to do I've included exposure data for each image.

1. ISO 1600, 1/500th @ f7.1, 3.5M

3. ISO 1600, 1/400th @ f6.3, 4.5M

4. ISO 1600, 1/250th @ f6.3, 4M

For those interested, the first 2 images were taken with my 1DMk4 @ 600mm focal length (300mm f2.8L + 2x MkIII) and the last 4 were taken with my D800 @ 550mm (400mm f2.8ED + 1.4x TCII). The last image was shot with backlight/sidelight; an effect I really like.
I know that I'm still getting some soft tails and more blurring of wings than optimal with slower shutter speeds....that's an easy fix. I still need to play with flower positions and resultant bird positions to get the results I'm looking for, but overall I'm happy with the progress. Hope you agree and feel like leaving some feedback after your "stay". Thanks for checking them out.

Lookin' mighty fine to me. I'm envious! And you've already identified areas you want to correct. And yes, I noticed they are males.:p So here's the plan; you take care of the guys and I'll handle the girls! ( That didn't quite sound right:o)

Haha Barry, not sure I'm ready to do the "educating" on these guys yet, but I'm always happy when you leave such nice comments. Thanks.

Yes Rog, still fortunate to have the male around. That'll change in about a month. Always appreciate your input friend.

Much appreciated Jeff. Sorry, I kinda abbreviated 1DMkIV=EOS 1D Mark IV....computer slang for me. :)

A fine set my friend though it is kind of hard to tell, do you consider where the sun is? Some look almost with the sun in front or past 90 degrees forward of you position. Or maybe close to midday. Still a fine set!

Thanks as always Bret. The data from these captures says that #'s 1-5 were captured between 2:15 PM and 3:00 PM when the sun would be somewhat over my right shoulder at about 4-5 on the clock face. The last was taken at about 10:00 AM when the sun would be about 2 on the clock face. Obviously great minds think alike my friend as I tried yesterday to get some captures during overcast conditions, but the hummer was uncooperative. I think I'm about to break the Recovery slider in ACR even shooting -2/3 stop EC per your method.
