I want to get a Sto-fen Bounce head for my 430 EX, except i have a few questions before i buy it. First off, what is it good for, like does it give anything extra to the flash when using it? And is it good for close shooting, distance shooting, or both?

You want to get it, even though you don't know what it's for? Strange.

The idea of the omnibounce is to bounce most of the light off a ceiling/roof, but send some directly at the subject. If you're not going to bounce it my recommendation is not to bother with the ominbounce. In that case just use whatever diffuser makes your light source as large as possible.

I purchased one a couple of years back. I use it for close ups (3ft to 8ft) in a boune position for minimal fill flash in slightly lower light situations. You can use FEC to adjust it depending on the amount of fill you need.

It works better than the "close up" setting on my 580EX.
