This is an image of my parents taken back in 1952. It was in really bad shape and it took me awhile to restore it. My question is this, it appears to be a vignette, yet I thought vignettes got darker on the edges. So, I am hoping someone here can shed some light on what the process was and how they achieved it?

Vignettes can be lighter or darker.

When you project an image onto white photo paper from a negative in the enlarger only the parts where light hits the paper turns dark. So to create a white vignette you just make a soft mask from the center to the edges of the paper in the cone of light coming out of the enlarger lens.
