Kurkov, I've been following your thread since you started it. In 1989 I spent a month in Odessa for the Black Sea Cup sailboat race. We were "free" to wander the city. We spent a lot of time at the "dollar bars" in the Black Sea and Red Sea hotels. I found everything interesting. The food was good, most of the people we were able to talk to were nice.
