Now that I have and like a 6D, I was considering selling my 40D and the better of the EF-S lenses that I have and can't use on the 6D.
All of that was before I researched what a used 40D brings, $250.00 at best is what I've found. :(
I was think of selling it along with my Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 lens and EF-S 60mm f/2.8 macro.
I guess I could just let it sit, it doesn't cost anything to do that.
Any thoughts?

I still have my old 40D here at the house. This was the camera I had during the World Series here in Philadelphia in 2008 and 2009. It tells a "good story" as the years go by. By keeping it you certainly have a great back up paired with the 17-55.

Let it sit and use it occasionally for potentially dangerous stuff (rain, extreme dust etc...). Sell the EF-S lenses though, they still have some value in them.

Keep it.
I sold mine for $250 2 years ago & still kind of regret it. It is still a great back-up body. Like zamorac said, there are times that you might want to have it & a cheap lens to use for "higher risk" photography.

Thanks everyone...you have reinforced what I kind of already knew. ;)
The 40D stays.
While I was taking inventory, I came across a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens packed away that I had forgotten about.
I put it on the 6D and took a couple of outdoor shots...not bad but not "L" lens quality by any means. "Snapshot" quality at best. :D

I'll hold onto the lenses for the 40D.

I sold my 650D to re-fund my bank account after buying the 6D. It was the only way to justify it.
Then I quickly sold my EF-S lenses and that just more than covered the 6D body cost.
I do at times miss the light weight and my 10-22mm lens, as I never got it's FF replacement.
If you can afford to keep the old gear go for it. But make sure to dry store it, for mold, etc.
