Stolen Equipment (UK)

Some scrotes broke into my house earlier this week and made off with pretty much all of my camera equipment.

If anyone comes across the following, please could you contact me and/or the police.

i think the best thing you did was to post hear,will be on the lookout and sorry for your lost gear.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Your list made me realize that I should keep a list of my gears' serial numbers. I do so from time to time but need to put the list elsewhere other than keeping it on my pc. A thief would take the pc as well.

Hope you'll get your gears back and catch the thief.

Keep an eye out at your pawn shops and thrift stores too in the next couple weeks. If you have those sort of places. My friend recovered most of his stuff at a local pawn shop that was stolen from a church while he was shooting a wedding. They posted one of his lenses on eBay and he was able to track the guy down. Turns out someone brought in the bag full of stuff and pawned it all. The guy had to give all the stuff back.

Really gutted for you. Absolute scum.

What part of UK are you in? Keep an eye out on gumtree.

If you have home owners insurance it should cover this. I don;t know how this kind of thing works in the UK but I hope you can get restitution somehow.

If he's a photographer by trade, (in the US at least) his homeowners insurance won't pay squat. You need business insurance to deal with the loss. Doesn't matter if it was stolen from his home.

Now if he's a hobbyist with expensive toys, and he doesn't have a schedule or rider to cover the additional equipment, he'll likely only get $2500 (less deductible!) or whatever his standard electronic equipment coverage is. It's usually not more than $2500 for standard coverage.

Do you have something like Craig's List, an online place that a lot of people here in the US use for local buying/selling? I've heard of people getting good reports from them and/or friends scanning the ads for that gear!

Messiah on a Velocipede, this makes my week seem a lot better - I only had my bike nicked (also from inside my building, locked up) but I appreciate what you must be feeling. I hope some of the stuff can be recovered - there's some good suggestions in the above posts about GumTree, second hand shops (like CashConverters and the more traditional ones) and obviously eBay.

Thanks for the suggestions and the sympathy. It was all insured but I'm expecting it will take many weeks if not months to sort out the claim.

It's the futility of it all that I find most annoying. I can't see how the thieves could hope to sell the stuff on for anything like its true value - who's going to buy a used 1DX or a 500mm lens without checking it's legit? So all they've done is massively inconvenience me and risk jail time for a couple of hundred quid.

Bummer! There are lots of words to describe my thought about the thieves but the forum filters them all out.
You must be like me and keep everything together in a convenient portable case.
