What kind of bird is this? I thought it was an eagle, but now I'm thinking a hawk...

Swallow-tailed Kite.

Thanks. I believe it was as big as a bald eagle. Could it be something else? Hmmm

If it was as big as an Eagle, it would be a world record Kite. These birds are medium sized, about 24 inches tall and a wingspan of about 48 inches.

You're very welcome. I personally would take a Swallow-tailed Kite sighting over a Bald Eagle. We only see them here in the summer months but not very often and almost always at a distance. Our Eagles are seen year round. No disrespect to Eagles, they'e magnificent birds.

Swallow Tailed Kite. One was just here in my area...Western Canada.

Think the last one sighted here was about 122 years ago. Birders say it must of got disoriented.
