Turn your camera gain down as low as is reasonable and aim for an average peak around -12, if you're using meters. Cinematographer Chicago

For a tripod-mounted shot, you can leave the switch on flat. Thanks, I did set my Rode like that, and turned the camera audio to manual. Able to approach that average peak now.
