1 Bleeding Heart: 5-27-14 - Dirty Pete would come into the frame from the left, feed on the open flower at the far right and then fly backwards (to the left) to each successive flower. I've not seen a hummingbird feed on Bleeding Hearts this way before.

2 Poppy: 5-29-14 - Shot on one of the few sunny days we've had lately. Besides the obvious color red, Dirty Pete seems to like white. This Poppy was a great find at a nursery run by challenged school kids (They have green thumbs, lol).

3 Delphinium: 5-30-14 - Another find at the student-run nursery. Dirty Pete had a filed day with all of the flowers and buds.

4 Peace Lily: 5-31-14 - This was an extremely tough flower for Dirty Pete - even though he was very curious about it. Still he was his usual, undaunted self. It was during this shoot that he started coming to me after each trip to the flower (instead of the feeder), so I began rewarding him with sugar water. I am truly amazed.

Gorgeous! I like how you included the surrounding elements rather than just close-ups of the bird. Great shots!

Any time it's Dirty Pete we know the quality will be high Ian. I don't think he's capable of taking a bad picture....with your excellent help as usual. Quite a unique symbiosis.
I'll have to say the "Apache attack helicopter" look in your 2nd image is fascinating.

Hi All,

Normally I like to answer each comment individually, but this time it's not possible. On May 28th I was turned down for an important group show at a photography museum. I was very disappointed - even though I know better than to let that happen. But on May 29th I was contacted to do three shows! One is in August, and it will be a smallish hummingbird exhibit. The other two exhibits are special. They're with the city of North Adams (home of Masss MoCA) and their DownStreetArt (DSA) program. It seems they're installing a new gallery on Main St that will be a part of DSA and they've asked me to do the first two shows. The first is this month with a drop off date around the 24th and it will be my hummingbirds from 2013 & 2014. I'm presently producing five 30x45s and six 16x24s for that one. I traveled 2 1/2 hours round trip to work with a print master (and my former and still-kinda mentor) at Aardenburg Imaging & Archives today and we were able to get 2 of the large prints done. I've been so incredibly busy trying to put together a show of this quality and size - writeups, price lists, press releases, posters, post cards, ordering frames and materials, etc, etc, etc. - that I haven't had the time to reply. Thank you all. I greatly appreciate your kind and generous words. :)

Kind Regards,

Ian
