Im going to cyprus this year and im not so sure what to bring on the wide end.

Im going to rent a car, so im very flexible. My thoughts were:

Tripod for landscape shoots and long exposures
50L for everyday use when walking around etc.
70-300L for the trips with the car, compressed landscape shots and animals
6D obviously my camera

My bag has only place for one more lens. It will be either the 16-35Lii or the 24Lii TSE.
The zoom would do the job no question. But i somehow want to make stunning landscapes with my TSE because it is an awesome lens. Zoom is more flexible but then the prime is incredibly sharp and is a tilt-shift...

I tend to bring the 24mm but what would you do? Or should i leave the 50L at home, take both wide angle lenses and take the fuji x100s instead of the 50L? Or should i leave the 70-300 at home? So many questions because i dont want to let the tele or the 50L at home..

Heya,

24 TSE. Not even a question. I wouldn't even take the 50mm. Wide and telephoto.

Very best,

Hmm. Was somehow hoping that someone would suggest the 24mm. But i love that 50 too much. Other opinions?

David.
Will be heading to Paris later this summer and like you will want to bring the TS-E 24. I guess we think a like. For me Architecture alone is enough to toss it in the bag....well not toss.
Enjoy the beauty of Cyprus.

if it was me then without question the 70-300 & 16-35!!!
you are full frame with the 6D so 16-35 for wide shots ..

My choice would be the 16-35. I'm surprised at how much more often I use it than my 24-70.

Damn now its even going in the other direction. Many different opinions here...

Bottom line until now: Definitely bring the 70-300

35 years ago I took a 35mm, 55mm, and 80-220mm zoom to South America for 4 months. 90% of my shots were with the 55mm. Now, for just holiday pics, I take a G1X, leaving the big guns at home. I only have the time to set up a tripod, compose a shot, and wait for the sun if I am alone.

24TSE!!!!! You are already lugging the tripod.

Vacations yield 2 kinds of pics. A whole crap ton of decent to bad "documentary" style pics for friends, family and memories. And a handful of WOW you are clearly into photography pics. You will have a ton of the former regardless if you went with all your gear or a P and S, so I would bring whatever makes the handful of the latter the largest possible handful. IMO, that is the 24 TSE, but maybe I am wrong in that the versatility of the 16-35 will get you more WOW shots. Tough call, but since you said tripod, that means you will dedicate time and I say 24TSE.

Everything is relative.

I dont think i will use the 16-35 as a lowlight solution. Either way for landscape etc i have a tripod. Also for really low life stuff i planned my 50L...
