Now, that's what I remember of the Netherlands!
Beautiful Image, Levina..

Yes, this country is totally flat with far horizons, low skies and lots of water but you have to get out of the city to see it. :) Thanks, Jo.

Levina, I've heard you talking down your photographic ability at the Landscape genre...well those two shots tell me that your eye is every bit as good as mine...I just happen to be lucky enough to be surrounded by mountains!

Lovely spaces!

Growing old disgracefully!

Levina, I wish there were spaces like that around here--not flat, necessarily, but with more nature and less artifice. California has too many people for its resources.

Another variation on empty space: what else shall I plant in this box?

Richard, coming from someone who's landscapes I so admire, this is a huge compliment and it means a lot. Of course I just think I got lucky with these two shots, but I'll try to remember your words and be more confident. Thank you very much.

It's no different here, OhLook. We are a tiny country with 16 million people and most of nature is cultivated. Especially the part of the country known as The Randstad (where I live), which is the economic centre of the country, is highly urbanised and crammed with people. According to the Wiki the Randstad is the country's largest conurbation and with a population of 7 million inhabitants is the 6th largest metropolitan area in Europe.

What I remember from my trip to the USA is that it is an immensely huge country with vast empty spaces. Of course your cities are so big that Amsterdam is a mere village in comparison so it would take you quite some time to leave them and find that open space, whereas I take out my scooter and be there in 10 minutes.

And that's another great interpretation of the theme, OhLook.

Dont forget The Netherlands is 1/10 the size of California, and you can drive across it in about 1 hour (well some parts).

Levina, I like the bridge photo.

I like Levina's idea of a scooter, or, for me, a bicycle!

Thanks, Klystron.

Don't know about driving through the country in 1 hour though. I mean, it's a small country, but it's not that small! :D

Well, there are a lot of 'cyclists who would love to take it on!

Oh god, don't talk about those damn cyclists terrorising our dedicated bicycle paths! They're a menace to everyone else out there! And in this season they travel in packs!! Grrr...

Yes, we have those too, in the morning and late afternoon when all the commuters are going to and from work, clogging the roads.

But no, I was talking about the cyclists being a menace on our dedicated bicycle paths!! You know, the guys in Pro outfits, going a gazillion kph, thinking they are in the Tour de France!

When I was in Amsterdam recently, I found the folks talking on their cell phones and riding their bikes to be a concern...

Uh, Tim? I don't see any images from you this week...

..I find people cannot walk and use their cell phones without consequences.

Stina, OhLook, Terry and Richard (with the books), Your interpretations of the theme seem to me so creative, so out of the box thinking. Really great stuff.

Thanks, Levina. I wasn't sure about mine because it's so different and it almost doesn't seem like a picture. Thinking out of the box is good though. :D

Heh! It's funny in a bizarre way, but as a result of some "stuff" my left ankle has become semi-dysfunctional, and until it recovers I won't be able to get out taking photos! Oh Well!

Bummer, I was looking forward to what you might come up with. :(

Empty spaces !

I like it, it looks empty to me.

Just like this shot of Tasman Bay this evening...empty of boats for a change, and someone stole our mountains!

Beautiful, Ricardo!

Amsterdam is one big empty space at dawn. Especially on a Saturday! :)

That's beautiful, Levina. I love the bridge against the sky.

Here's another Empty Space pic. Taken about 20 minutes or so after the bridge picture, at Waterland in the first sunshine of the day and with the sun just above the horizon giving that kind of eerie light.

Another beautiful picture, Levina. That sky is great and it will work great for X in the A-Z thread.

Nice, did you figure out what you're going to plant?
