When I was in Amsterdam recently, I found the folks talking on their cell phones and riding their bikes to be a concern...

A concern? Why? We're a nation of cyclists and have dedicated bicycle paths (most) everywhere. Every car driver is also a cyclist and so every car driver pays attention to every cyclist out there. No need for concern. Besides, we're a stubborn people when it comes to our personal freedoms: "As long as I don't put other people's lives in danger, then I decide what risks I take and not some government" is pretty much the consensus here. In some countries you can't ride a bicycle without having to wear a helmet! What's next? Making people who run wear a helmet in case they stumble and fall and hurt their heads? ;)

Uh, Tim? I don't see any images from you this week...

 It's been a tough week...no excuse, but life can screw up the best of plans. The plan was to do a version of this shot in a place about 2 hours drive from here.

Another beautiful picture, Levina. That sky is great and it will work great for X in the A-Z thread.

Haha, I thought the same thing, Stina: an X for the A-Z thread!!! :D

Levina, I get where you're coming from and generally agree...and I really like the dedicated bike paths. OTOH, while I was in Amsterdam I did observe a woman yakking on her cell phone hit a pedestrian walking next to me. Fortunately, the elderly pedestrian only suffered some cuts, scrapes and bruises.

Hear, hear, Levina...I totally agree! Helmets are compulsory here which I think is a bureaucratic step too far. I'm sure we have at least as many injuries per cyclist population as you do. More, probably, because so many people refuse to cycle because of the helmet rule that as motorists they don't understand the vulnerabilities of cyclists.

Nice, did you figure out what you're going to plant?

I was originally going to put three tomato plants in there, a variety bred specifically to grow in containers, but the germination rate for those seeds has been poor. I'll probably use the space for garlic, onions, maybe carrots.

The garlic sounds good! Actually I like them all, but the garlic helps keep vampires away!

It's true. We haven't seen even one vampire in the yard.

There will always be accidents, Tim, no matter what. People need to be sensible, is all. A pedestrian who doesn't look left and right first before crossing a street, can be hit by something too, or stumble and break an ankle. Maybe the person who got hit by your yakking woman was too far out on the road. It's not just cyclists who have to look out in traffic, pedestrians have to do the same. But a government who takes this protective measures thing too far is paternalistic in my view and I don't like that much. :)

That's a terrific amphitheatre Tim...is it a soundstage or for plays and such? Great use of the landform, and a nice image.

That's a great view Tim.

It's the Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver, Colorado. Built in 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps - a Depression era public works project. Seats about 9,500 and is at 6,500 feet altitude. Amazing place with some awesome accoustics. Here's the view from the stage:

Anyway...I had an appointment to get inside a new stadium in the SF Bay Area to take a similar shot last week. Unfortunately, it didn't work out. :(

Fantastic view! I've heard of Red Rocks, but have never had the opportunity to actually see it!
Now I feel I have.. Thanks ;)
