This is the "full" Wimberley off camera long lens bracket,

Unlike the dedicated Gimbal head bracket, it adds the bottom part to allow it to mount to any long lens Arca plate, or to the 90 degree plate that mounts to the camera directly.

Add this $20.00 clamp to the bottom of your bracket;

to achieve the same basic solution.

Jake, Very nice heron in the snow!!!
Could you (or any of you) post a picture of the above-described set up or other sets you use, assembled with camera and flash? I'm new to this....and addicted. I'm just getting my feet wet, and backyard birding with existing 60D, manfrotto 190xprob, 488rc2 head, 430exII, and new-to-me 100-400L. As I slowly add bits and pieces, I'd like them to be of sufficient quality and design to grow with as much as my minimum budget allows. My next purchase will be a gimbal - although I won't be purchasing a Wimberly gimbal anytime soon ;-)a

Interesting thread. Thanks to all of you for helping this addicted newbie along.

Google images click here (external link)

I don't have any images of my rig, but this google image search has them.
If time allows I might take some illustrative shots.

I think that would be very very nice for AMASS' gear section later on, Jake!

The google images are very helpful - should have thought of that. Thank you, Jake, and if you get around to taking images of your set up that will be awesome, too.

Thought I'd give the old pub a bump!
Hope everyone is well? :)

In my crappy world, photography might be drawing to a close for some time.
RL means that I cannot dedicate time to the moors, and thus the sale of my good lenses is starting to make sense.

Another chapter and all that.

That's sad to hear, Foggiest.
What is RL?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Real Life.

I can be happy in that I'm going in the other direction, having aquired a used 500mm to supplant the 100-400 as my primary wildlife lens.

Sad to hear Foggiest. But there will be time later to shoot I hope.

Good to hear Paul. It's a fantastic lens.

I know L&D14 ranks as one of if not the best place to photograph Eagles but I'm wanting to know if anyone else has had good luck in other places that may be closer for me to drive. I'm in NE Missouri, an hour away from Ottumwa Iowa which is on the Des Moines River. Quincy IL and Hannibal MO on the Miss. River are both about 1 1/2 hours away. I plan to travel to St Joseph Mo mid month and being on the Missouri River thought there might be a good location over that way as well. I'm guessing that colder weather would tend to concentrate them more and being South of L&D 14 a good 100 miles may be why we don't have a " famous" location. I have noticed that our Eagle viewing days for Mo tend to be in January which can be brutally cold during some winters.

If anyone knows of a good location closer to the "tri state" area for getting close to Bald Eagles I will appreciate your thoughts.
I had 4 Eagles on my property this morning but they may be here one day then gone for a week making it very time consuming to get set up for any decent shots.
