Okay - here goes. :o

I just bought an S2 IS two or three weeks ago, and wanted to get some feedback/tips on some landscape shots I took last week (before the snow came back  ).

I'm new at this, as I mentioned, and I'm still figuring out what this camera can do. At this point, it's way smarter than I am. These are the best shots I've taken so far, but I can see I have tons to learn.

I know a little bit about Photoshop, but just the basics, nothing fancy.

Any tips or direction would be much appreciated.

Just a quick thought- be a little more careful keeping your horizons horizontal (example: the house in #2 is falling over).

As far as advice for landscape- try this experiment: Pick a location to shoot and take several shots standing in the same place but a different zooms. This will teach your minds eye to visualize as the camera does. Soon you will be visualizing photographs even when you don't have your camera. Have fun and welcome to the forum.

Thanks - I'll give that a try.

Anyone else have any tips for an enthusiastic, yet clueless, novice? ;)

I'd like to see the tops of the trees in the 2nd and 3rd photos, and the bottom of the tree in #2, and as Alan said the house looks like it's falling.

I'm fairly new to this myself so don't feel qualified to give any technical advice, but what I will say is that by listening to others on this forum and taking note you will learn a great deal. I have learned an awful lot in the short time I have belonged this forum. There are some folks on here that take amazing photos and they are a real good friendly bunch

Above all enjoy your photography, and I look forward to seeing more of your shots
Roger.

Try reading threads about composition.

I would tend to keep the horizon away from the middle - It cuts the oictures in half. The 1/3rd rule is a good start. Try and lead the eye through the picture/story

The pics therefore shouts to me - point and shoot rather than plan and shoot. A bit like lets take pics with my new camera and see what it does.

The (#1 and #3)are really record shots #2 great but needs better lighting to be of more interest eg morning /late sun to bring out the contrast or in this case diagonal.
