Can't decide between these two. Really like the G1X but the EVF and extra range of the P7800 is appealing.

Anyone had experience with both?

Thanks,
AL

you should compare P7800 with Canon G16 - they have the same sensor size 1/1.7" (7.44 x 5.58 mm),
G1x has a 1.5" sensor (18.7 x 14mm)

EOS-M3 22/2, 18-55 is stm

Thanks. I know, but I want the flip screen so options are limited. I realise there is a big difference in the sensor size between the G1X and P7800 which doesn't really bother me.

if the smallish sensor size doesn't really bother you - P7800 is a good choice. also have a look at Panasonic FZ200 or Canon SX50 if you need a longer zoom and a fully articulated flip screen. all three are about the same price.

Thanks very much :) I've owned the SX50 (having discounted the FZ200) but couldn't get on with the rear control dial. I actually liked the camera so much that a few months after selling the first one I bought another! But I still couldn't get on with it. If there was an index finger operated control wheel on the front of the camera it would be perfect for me.

I've been hanging on to see what the SX50 replacement will be like. In fact I probably will wait a little longer. If it fails to impress I'll go for the P7800.

Thanks again,
AL

Have you considered the Olympus Stylus 1? It has a longer zoom, same sensor size as P7800, and good EVF. The LCD is not articulated, but does tilt up and down some.

Thanks Dennis - I'll take a look at it.
