Rent a car. Drive slowly.
No body mentioned here, so I write here. Take an umbrella, poncho and something to protect your gear from the RAIN. Must Visit Garden of Eden on the way.
All I had 5Dc+ 17-40 + 100mm for the trip. I guess that was enough.

Thanks for the link those are awesome pictures, Now I am more excited. I am packed (gear wise) just need to add poncho and protection for my gear heading to a local camera store for the Tamron tail gate tour this Friday and I will make sure I don't forget to buy protection for my gear.

We booked our rental car for our last 2 days of our trip since most of the time we are staying in the Resort for our first 4 days.

Thanks all again for the advise and info I really appreciate it.

OK, it sounds like you have kids. Do they get car sick?

I have fond memories of cleaning my daughter's breakfast out of the back of the rental car... and then later, her lunch. :| And that was driving pretty gently too.

I really don't think you need ALL that gear for hana either, although there's nothing wrong with bringing it.

I love Maui...
At the time I had a 50d, 24-105, 28mm zeiss, and a 50mm prime
Worked great with a extra wide b&w cpl and a ND filter
The truth is 95% of the time I had the 24-105 on the 50d with the cpl on.... pics were very sharp!

Road to Hana is fine, but be careful on the 1 way passing portions.
The only thing I got scared off was the drive up haleakala... I got so scared at being up 8500 feet with no guard rails, that I had to turn around in pure terror

Canon 6D, Canon L 24-105, Zeiss Distagon 28mm 2.8, Planar 50mm 1.4, Planar 85mm 1.4, Sonnar 135mm 2.8 & Zeiss Mutar 2x, Canon 50mm 1.8

This is a very good point. I've always been susceptible to motion sickness. I took Meclizine before several adventures in Maui and felt great the entire time. I have no doubt the road to Hana would have made me sick without it.
