Heading to Maui this Sunday for a week, And I have 1 day to spend for birding. Anyone knows where is the best place to photograph birds in Maui? I am looking for at least 2 places. Thanks

Peter

The Hana Highway is absolutely gorgeous. It also provides some very good birding. Lots of pull outs (and bridges) where you can stop and walk down to "secret" beaches. The BBQ along the way is also fantastic. I recommend renting a vehicle for this if you haven't already. Stopping when you want to is a lot better than taking a bus.

You can't go to Maui and not go on the Hana highway, it's that good.

Do yourself a favor and splurge on a convertible. I don't think we had the top up once, while we were there, lol. As for birding, I'm sorry I really can't say, I wasn't into birding back then.

I think your best bet is to check "eBird" and check the bar chart for Maui, then make a list of your must see birds, then try and find those with the map. You want to find birds endemic to hawaii.... not travel thousands of miles to see chickens and house sparrows.
