2-day shipping applies to when the item has shipped....not when you place your order. If it didn't ship Monday or Tuesday, the 2-day shipping doesn't apply until the carrier has received the item.

Your item was probably held up probably for authorizing payment especially with high priced items. Some online stores won't ship until the credit card is authorized and no holds on it. Sometimes, orders get cancelled this way. To avoid this, call the credit card company ahead of time and let them know that you'll be purchasing a high priced item.

I ordered a camera case that I needed for a trip. It showed as delivered even though I never got it. Called Amazon up and they said to wait one more day even though carrier marks it delivered when its not (who does that? and it was a bunch of crap coming out of their mouth). So I waited a day to make them happy. Didn't show up the next day and called them. They apologized, extended my Prime a month and refunded my order. Low and behold, I get missed a call from the homeowner it was delivered to by accident but they never called me back and the package showed up a few days later.

Amazon promises 2 day delivery but fails to tell customers that they use UPS, and UPS delivers your package to the US Post office in 2 days, the US post office in turn takes another 2-3 days. I call amazon regarding this practice and received an extension of 1 month of my prime membership. Kind of shady to me, 2 day delivery should be in my hands in 2 days, not 4.

Every item I ordered arrived in 2 days or less (depending on location of warehouse). Regardless of price or size of the item.

I paid $560 with Amazon own c/c which I had on file forever, and $40 in points that I had on the account, authorizing payment was not an issue. We've purchased more expensive stuff in the past and it would ship the same day. They simply didn't get to shipping it on either Monday or Tuesday. And I did call them on Monday and was assured it will be delivered on 6/4. As I said, at least one CS rep told me the warehouse was running behind due to staffing issues. Which is fine when I don't pay $90 for the so-called "Prime" membership.

Well, it's all history now, the item has been canceled. I am just posting here to vent and to warn people not to rely on getting their order when promised, even if you are a Prime member.

in my experience it depends where you live and what you buy. At my old place, I would often get my Amazon 2-day orders the next day and they never took longer than two days except once last Xmas when for some reason a $160 purchase was sent by super-saver shipping instead of Prime 2-day. I called Amazon and they overnighted me the same item, letting me return the original when it arrived (which it did four days later).

At my new place, however, the shipping is more hit and miss and I've often had deliveries take 3 days (or more if the courier is mentally challenged or lazy). Amazon seems to use a variety of shipping methods, probably depending on which warehouse they ship from. I've had deliveries from an independent carrier (looked more like a moonlighting student), UPS and FedEx, all of which offered different "experiences".

I have placed HUNDREDS of Prime orders with Amazon over the last 10 years or so. I have only had one item not show up on time.

The above mentioned practice about UPS handing it off to USPS is not true in my area. Every Prime Item I've ever ordered has arrived via UPS or FedEx. Never once in hundreds of orders have I received anything from USPS from Amazon Prime.

Are you sure the item was Prime Eligible? Are you sure that you didn't make a payment mistake? I'm not saying you did and I'm not defending Amazon, but there are a lot of factors that go into online ordering and I've had a couple of orders hiccup because of old cards, etc.

If you're done with Amazon, that's all well and good, but it seems there's more to it than just Amazon not shipping something on time.

For what it's worth, I think $99 a year for free 2nd Day Air Shipping on hundreds of thousands of items is a bargain. Not to mention you get Amazon Prime Instant Video on top of it with access to all of the HBO series as they are released for free. Hell, I'd spend $1800 a year on HBO alone. I bought my last TV from Amazon... A 46" Samsung. Ordered it Friday afternoon at lunchtime from work. Paid $11.99 overnight shipping. FedEx delivered it at 9:30am Saturday Morning.

Companies make mistakes. UPS makes mistakes. I think it's pretty safe to say your case is not isolated, but I don't think it's all that common.

I would check to make sure there weren't other factors such as Prime Availability on the item you ordered, payment information changes, etc.

My experience with Amazon echoes what the majority here have said. I am also a Prime Member, and items that are Prime eligible pretty much always arrive within the 2 day period, often the very next day, and always by UPS or FedEx, never USPS. When I have had the rare problem or delay with an order, Amazon has more than made it right.

The people who work at Amazon (and UPS/FedEx) are human, too. Mistakes will happen. If the first line of customer service isn't helpful, politely ask to speak to a supervisor for further assistance.

Respectfully, OP, accept some accountability for the problem. I would not totally rely on the multitudes of people involved in a 2-day ordering/shipping process to make any day a success. At best, you can only HOPE that such last-minute ordering/shipping would go without a hitch.

If all of that is asking too much of you, then you did right by just moving on.

I have order 100s of items from them. They do make mistakes due to their complicated distribution systems, but in my experience they are rare. Maybe 1-2 in a 100, and they always make it right in the end. Give them a chance to sort it out.

Your signature says not to sweat the small stuff. Take your own advice, take a breath, learn from this experience and maybe place orders a little more in advance.

Cancel the Prime deal if you want to, but I think that's a little unnecessary given this one small issue.

If nothing else your post has illustrated two things:

1. Don't wait until the last minute to order anything.
2. Relying on extensive, intricate logistics systems to get you a last-minute order on-time can be disappointing.

You missed the point - I ordered it on Friday before 5pm. On Tuesday at 10 pm it still hasn't been shipped. That's two full business days plus some Friday time plus the weekend. It wasn't until 10 pm on Tuesday that I made another purchase using what ended up being the same points; by that time Amazon has already missed any reasonable shipping time, and they failed to notify me of issue with points (that happened due to their own screw up in first place ) for another 10 hours.

Now this is the screwing up part, which I can forgive. What I won't forgive Is the completely dismissive attitude of their customer service, including the supervisor that first tried to blame me for everything and then hung up on me when I presented her with times and dates, and asked why an item ordered during business on Friday hasn't shipped as of 10pm next Tuesday. That's 4.5 days, mind you, and over two full business days and the item hasn't even left their warehouse in Virginia at 10pm last night - no freaking way it would make it to Michigan today. They screwed up, and lied, and she hung up on me when caught on that lie ("dropped call" my ass) and I don't think I am being unreasonable at all.

I can totally see your frustration, but just as clarity, what would you have expected them to do to make it right?

Just out of curiosity. I'm not challenging you here, but I'd like to hear what you think they could have done to rectify the situation other than shipping it out as soon as they figured out the mistake.

Their policy is this:

If your order meets the qualifications for Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery, we will automatically refund the shipping costs if we miss our delivery promise.

I know what their policy is. What I'm asking is what the OP expects Amazon to do about it.

They've been I would say 97% on time. Couple time I did have to call and get a refund for the overnight shipping but that was between two years or so. Sorry this happened OP. A lot of their changes though seem to be affecting many users, I hear about it more often.

My Prime ran out just yesterday. Just not sure to renew it or not as it's $99/yr now.

The supervisor claimed they could still get the lens here if there wasn't a "payment issue" and that they have emailed me immediately when they saw the points were used. Well, that email was sent at 7:48am today, I fixed the payment at 8:02 am. So if they can process a purchase at 7:48 and claim they would still have it in my hands at 8 pm the same day, I asked to have that lens at my house before 10am tomorrow morning. Well, can't guarantee time, only the day. Ok, then give me a discount as I still want the lens. Well, heres $5. To me, that's an insult.
