Should I buy this 7D?

So - I've been contemplating upgrading from my T2i to either a 7D or 70D.

Came across a local deal - a 7D less than a year old - approximately 3,000 actuations. Includes the kit lens - EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and everything it came with new (box, strap, manuals, etc).

Looks like I can pick up the package for somewhere in the $850 range.

Is this something I need to jump on? This feels like one of those deals that found me - seems like a great deal.

I'm looking to upgrade for better AF and faster burst shooting (sports).

Thoughts?

Sounds good. The 7D is a terrific camera, especially for your needs.

I think there may be loads of folk punting their 7d's soon with the rumour that they are coming to an end of life scenario soon. Whether that is true remains to be said but it's been out a while now and most have migrated to a 70D.

It's still a formidable camera though, and I'd likely use one again if the price was right.

By "end of life scenario," do you mean that a new version will come out (7D II)? If so - I suspect the retail prices will be higher than the existing 7D price . . .
And so - the question is (I guess) whether the changes they make to the 7D justify me spending close to double what this one will go for?

Any idea what improvements they may make to the 7D? WiFi? better low light performance?

Oh and here comes the 7DII speculation again. Until it's announced it's 100% myth, the myth has been around almost as long as the 7D itself!!

As for the purchase of that specific camera, I say have a look at it and make sure it functions as expected. If so, go for it, the 7D is a great camera and that is a good asking price.

The 5D-C is still widely used and for fast frame shooters, the 7D is still a viable body to use even at "EOL" compared to newer bodies. With all these tech advances these years, low light performance will be improved and all around speed. If the potential 7D-II offers features that are useful, then it is a camera to consider wallet permitting.

I still shoot with the 5D-C and while it doesn't offer the operational speed of the 5D-III, the resulting images from that 12 MP sensor are still useful for me. When I shoot trains with the 5D-C, I am wanting and that is where I desire a 7D. Lugging around a 5D-III isn't within my casual use criteria so that is also why I'd like a 7D class camera to have on hand.

$850 is a reasonable price.

Sounds like a pretty good deal if the unit is in good cosmetic and mechanical operating condition. That lens alone will cost close to $300.00 alone. Check ebay and see what they have been selling for. There will always be something newer, so don't buy into that crap! Trust me the 7D is very capable.

Until it's not supported by Canon anymore it's hardly EOL.

Sounds like a great deal. 7D has very good autofocus and high resolution. Be aware that you will need to avoid underexposure in order to get the best out of that very dense 18MP sensor. It will reward you with quality photos.

Underexposure city is right, my lord, love the camera though. Sounds like a good buy with only 3000 actuation.

I like a like-new 7D for $850 18moths ago. I don't know what the going rate is but this seems like a good, but not too-good-to-be-true deal.

7D is a nice upgrade and still a very capable camera even compared to newer models. I still use mine quite a bit for various reasons. Obviously it doesn't have the IQ of a FF, but handling and AF speed/accuracy are close to the 5DIII, just with fewer points.

I thought it was great value for money when I bought mine and I still think it is an excellent outdoor sports and general photography camera.

I don't know how many people migrated to the 70D from the 7D. Maybe video users is all. Why would you migrate to worse ergonomics and spotty af?

It comes with a lens, has a low count, and is priced right. Go for it. Especially if you're looking for robust autofocus. It's image quality will not be better than you T2i, so don't expect a ton there. But getting a focused photo, and holding focus on a moving person in sports, that's what the 7D is all about. Push ISO up and let the FPS do the work. Cherry pick your photos at that point, as you'll have thousands to sift through in just a few sessions I'm sure.

If you want image quality increase, and a good fast AF system, then the 70D is only $150 more than this. Something to consider.

Do you have a 70-200 2.8? If you don't, maybe get one of those. I'm not sure on your shooting needs, but I don't think there is a huge need to jump on the 7D. If you shoot in the evening, better glass will be more helpful. If you have the glass you need, then go for the camera upgrade.
