Duplicate the layer Filter->Other-> High Pass Drag the slider 3/4 way Click OK Change blending mode to "Overlay" Lower the opacity. yeah, ive done that, but never realy liked it (i used it on hard light instead of overlay though) , I prefer this action. 30mm, 50mm, 85mm, and some zooms here and there.

I think I'll give this one a try though. At last sensible use is made of layers/blending. Don't know about the radius being '1' in the first step though... Anything beyond 0,5 is too high IMO USM Radius completely depends on the output. I agree with your statement when sharpening web-sized files, but for printing 300 DPI portraits you can easily hit a Radius of 3. I generally consider a Radius of 1.5 to be the starting point for 300 DPI prints, and adjust that higher or lower depending on detail levels. You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Anything beyond 0,5 is too high IMO yeah, but later the action changes the layers blanding mode so that the layer with 1 radius sharpening doesnt show up as much (only sharpens the mid tones) 30mm, 50mm, 85mm, and some zooms here and there.
