Seen her at my feeder the last 2 days w/ this "debris". Wondered of it was the aviary version of an umbilical cord from egg laying. But I think the anal, birth/egg canal is further back. Material from nest building like my "Dirty Beaks" post?
Not very sharp images, but I wanted to put this out there.

Sorry about the feeder, but these are the best shots I got and show a different angle.

Either way, if this thing gets tangled and the bird takes off, not good! What are your thoughts?

I hope it will fall off, whatever it is has got to be a burden. I was thinking maybe cattail fluff?

So you do not think it's anything "internal"? That would be my wish, but do not get why she can shed anything like you suggest?

I am no expert but if you look at the fine detail at the lowest point of that mess there are clearly fibers of some sort. I do wonder what it is.

Looks like an entanglement to me too Rog.
Whatever it is looks like it's caught on her right foot. Maybe she can jiggle it loose when she gets back to the nest. Certainly hope so cause she gave you some nice poses right on the feeder.

Think she's on her own, B'Fly. We do seem to agree not an internal problem.

Well, as I said in the op, hard to believe she'd carry it for 2 days and maybe more. Think they can reach their feet and legs w/ their beaks. Lousy weather today and did not see any hummers. Tomorrow forecast is great, so will keep an eye out.

Nice captures shooting in a difficult back light Rog. Some aerial battles and I am sure the debris will fall off. I helped lighten the load in #1

Saw this gal yesterday, Thurs. 6/5 and today, still with "her following". Don't know what to really make of it?!? Yesterday's image-

IMAGE: http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/ardeekay_photo/_MG_1758_edited-2.jpg

And today's-

IMAGE: http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/ardeekay_photo/_MG_1793_edited-2.jpg

To my untrained eye, she looks perfectly healthy and active. Certainly eating well!
If anyone has any added info, be happy to hear it.
Thanks for looking.

That first shot from Thursday is killer Rog.
Nice!!

As for the fibers, it looks like fluffy material caught on her foot. I wouldnt be concerned unless it tangled her to a branch or something.
Keep an eye out for her.

Rog, the IQ (of the last two added) is significantly better. Way to go.

Thanks, Jeremy and Ted. Haven't seen her today-big storm coming and think all the birds are hunkering down.
