These were taken at the Ronald Regan Library.
Air Force 1 is a customized Boeing 707 tail number 27000 which was replaced by the current 747 which was ordered by President Reagan. Her sister ship is on display at Wright Patterson Airforce Base, Ohio.
While we were able to tour the inside of the plane we were not allowed to take pictures for security reasons.

Is it correct the name Airforce 1 applies to any plane the President is travelling on? If the President is not on the plane, even those with official monikers in the official fleet, then it's not Airforce 1?

You are correct. Air Force 1, Marine 1, Navy 1, Coast Guard 1.
When President Bush flew in the fighter and landed on the Aircraft carrier he was at that time flying in Navy 1.

i believe that to be true.

and i also heard that any alterations/repairs done to one is automatically done to the other, regardless if it needs it or not. ( there are 2 airforce 1's). both planes are indistinguishable. in times of crisis they fly both non stop so people dont know which the president is in, if he is even in one.

and by the way, impressive shots!!!

...taken at the Ronald Regan Library.

Ronnie wasn't much of a reader, was he? :D Nice shots.

The two VC25A's (the 747's) are only AF1 when the big guy is on board. When they fly without the passenger, they are generally callsigned SAM28000 /SAM29000 (their Reg. No.'s)

Seen a show about Air Force One awhile back and in '63 after Kennedy was shot Johnson took the oath of office while in the air and when they took of the plane was going by it's assigned number then immediately after he took th oath the pilots radioed that they were now flying Air Force One.
