I will be contributing as soon as I get this lens. I have reached out to several other members here who have posted one or two photos with the lens in other threads. But only created this thread recently.

Heya,

The 44-2 (and it's later revisions, up to 44-4) is a 58mm F2 lens.
The 85mm F1.5 lens is the 40-1 (silver) and 40-2 (black).

A "Helios" family thread may be interesting. But the current title is just confusing.

I would select a single lens for the samples. And alter/edit this thread to suit.

Any difference other than aesthetics from the chrome to black versions?

I hear some of the older silver lenses are not as sharp wide open,
as well as the glass could have contaminants if it is rusted, as the metal was untreated.
Not sure its there is credibility to either this or the sharpness.
I will try to find a comparison article between the 40-1 and 40-2.
Buy their original manufacturing conditions they often can with dust 'built in' the silver ones.
After looking around a few sites the silver seems rare while the black are new and even commonplace.

I don't see the need for a new thread for this lens when we have the one below.

@ InfiniteDivide: I own both the chrome (silver) and the new (2013) black version of this lens. I honestly cannot tell any difference in image quality between them. Either I am lucky or not observant enough. Both are great to my eyes.

This summer I am going to Osaka, if I cannot find a clean copy there,
I will get this Helio when I return 'home' online.

I think it's gonna be hard to land a good copy in Japan. Your best bet is getting it online. Ebay, or even Amazon - both have them. The only concern is the shipping charges to Japan, but you just factor that into the price. Once it's done, you have the lens for life. It's yours. I think it is worth it.
