not posted for a while as I've been in Cyprus for my holidays. this little patient fella flew into the garden of the villa we stayed at and was very accommodating, the shots have only been cropped to frame and the colours have not been tweaked at all, they are basically straight out of the camera, so can any of you enlightened folks give me an ID please.
very pleased with it as its my first dragonfly shot.
thanks for looking C&C's welcome as always.

Cheers mate.
Im now thinking it might be a damsel fly as it was quite small, possibly a Small Red Damselfly (Ceriagrion tenellum)????

How about Scarlet Darter (Crocothemis erythraea) or Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii)?

Ah, sorry I missed that. It probably isn't a Red veined Darter becaue the black stripes on the thorax don't match the reference images. It probably isn't a Scarlet Darter because the abdomen is too squat and those black patterns on the underside look wrong. I'm US based, so I'll have to google some more.

Lovely photos by the way.

I'm thinking maybe Red-veined dropwing (Trithemis arteriosa).

The black marks on the bottom of the abdomen look right (but the face is a maybe), and only if it sat with its wings down and forward most of the time.
