Sorry if I missed the answer in search, but did not see it, if it is there.

Trying to print an 8X12 bordeless on the Canon Pixma Pro-100

I found the custom paper size and the custom photo size, but it will not allow me to print in a custom size borderless

I am sure I am missing some simple step, but clueless at this point.

I don't have that printer, and can't offer specific advice...

I will say that when I was going into "serious" home printing, it wasn't long before I went for an "office" paper cutter, good for I believe up to 12" cuts, more if you just work with it a bit...

With that cutter it became simple and straightforward, I bought batches of 13x19 photo paper, mapped out my desired print size, printed and then trimmed accordingly. My printers could do borderless, I did plenty of small borderless prints (4x8 and 5x7 for example) but for something I wanted to print and frame, well, my most common sizes are 12x16 and 12x18, as well as some 11x14 and 11x17 prints, all fitting different framings, so the paper trimmer is invaluable!

Yeah, not looking promising:
When a page size that cannot be used for borderless printing is selected, the size is automatically changed to the valid page sizes for borderless printing.

When Borderless is selected, the Printer Paper Size, Duplex Printing (Manual), Stapling Side settings, and the Stamp/Background... (Stamp...) button on the Page Setup tab appear grayed out and are unavailable.

Borderless printing can be executed only if, on the Main tab, Media Type is set to Plain Paper, Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, Photo Paper Pro Platinum, Photo Paper Pro Luster, Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss, Matte Photo Paper, Other Glossy Paper.

Can Pro-100 print borderless on A4 and A3?

I intend to buy this printer when my current HP Photosmart dies and although I print with thin borders, Qimage, the printing program that I use, requires the printer to be set to borderless to take full command over borders.

I think it will print borderless on 8.5x11 or 13x19 (and their equivalent European sizes). The PRO 100 will NOT print borderless on 11x14 or other "non-standard" sizes. Red River Paper has a work around posted for 11x14. Maybe it would also work for 8x12. Here's a link (external link) to their very helpful page of articles. The 11x14 one is toward the bottom of the page.

My question - Why print borderless?

  • It's hard on a printer. Ink gets all over the insides and quality deteriorates near the edges..
  • Traditionally the best hand made prints were made with borders or trimmed after printing.
  • Borders give a place to handle the print without touching image area.
  • Borderless prints came into fashion in the 70s with machine prints

Just print with borders and trim if you need to. Much easier. You're going to have some waste with 8x12 anyway.

And borders make mounting for framing a bit easier too.
