Includes an interesting ability to paint into an existing gradient or radial filter, which is nice if your gradient filter obscures foreground detail that you want not to be gradient filtered, etc.

This is a CC only release candidate. Please, no moaning about how CC is a rip-off, the subscription model is an abomination, etc. That ship has sailed.

Now that would really make me look at making the jump from LR4 to a new version. Currently I have to go to PS to add a colour grad layer that doesn't also colour the subject. Thats about 90% of my PS use.

That ability already exists, although it requires two separate operations and a bit of remembering and manual setting and is therefore slower and perhaps might be considered to be more "difficult". After applying the GF or RF use a brush with the opposite settings - a GF with Exp -20 and Sat +10 can be cancelled by a brush with Exp +20 and Sat -10. The innovation is not new technology, only easier access.

The problem with brushing the "opposite" adjustment over a grad or radial filter is that the filter varies, exposure for example, over some distance, with some falloff. You can't use a brush to perform that adjustment to locally negate the effect of a grad or radial filter.

Yeah, I had noticed that there is not an "eraser" for the graduated filter, not one that I could see, I guess I was correct, it's good to see that it's being put in, I wonder when it will show up in Lightroom?

Ah, so it is apparently available for the non-CC CS6, good to know!

Now for LR!

Does the CS6 version support the "new features" or is it just a camera compatibility update for CS6?

According to the Product Details it's only new camera support for CS6. CC shows new features, bug fixes, and the new cameras.

The idea of putting out a ver. 8,5 for CC and then a different (less-featured) ver. 8.5 for non-CC, well, that will likely cause problems, at least in my opinion!

It was clearly stated a year ago that after a certain point ACR for CS6 would be updated only for camera support and bug fixes and would not receive new features, but CC products would get new features as soon as they are ready for release, without the need to wait for a version upgrade. Indeed, this was one of the trumpeted selling points for CC. Owners of CS6 can't claim ignorance of this policy or expect new features for ever and the day is not far off when camera support updates will cease also.

Nobody knows (or can say) whether there will be a LR 5.5, but if there is one coming, it is unlikely that it will have this feature. "Dot" releases have never contained new features and LR users probably will see it only in LR 6.

IIR LR5.2 had new feature's added, although they weren't major new features.
I do believe this was the only recent version to have new features added though.

IIRC, it was an improvement in functionality of the Heal/Clone brush and not a new feature. Of course, the inclusion of an erase brush in the already existent local adjustment filters might also be considered an improvement in existing features and not a whole new feature per se. Depends on your point of view, I guess, and how generous Adobe is feeling.
