Next week I'm going to Ft Collins via Denver. On the way back I plan to take the highway in the sky. Any recommendations on places to stop?

I think you ought to take a day and hit Rocky Mountain National Park. You should also tour one of our breweries, such as New Belgium. :)

What's bringing you to Fort Collins?

I'm coming for a class on GIS software. I'll have evenings an Saturday morning available.

If the clouds are right, you can get some nice sunset shots from RMNP. Up the Poudre Canyon (highway 14) is also nice, but it's about 1.5 hours to Cameron Pass. There's lots of moose (and elk and deer) that direction, so you could get lucky. I suggest you check to see if Long Draw Road is open if you go up the Poudre. Closer by is Lory State Park (15 min drive) that can be nice, too. A few trails into the foothills.

Thanks. When I get to my room and get my laptop out, I'll look up those spots.

Highway to the Sky? Where is that? Do you mean Trail Ridge Road in RMNP? Or do you mean the Peak to Peak Highway from RMNP down to Nederland (outside of Boulder)?

Just know that depending on where you go, the flooding back in September caused a lot of damage so things might not be exactly what you expect.

It's been a dozen years since I was here last. Either I'm confusing the name with another highway or peak to peak used to be called that. I followed it from ft Collins to Golden and then to Denver.

Might you mean Loveland to Estes Park to Boulder then to Denver?

Yes, but it looks like I went to Golden from Boulder, then to the airport.
