The first image has a stray foot showing in the lower right corner, which could be cropped out. I'd also crop out the bystander on the left since he adds nothing to the image. The colors also need correction.

IMHO, the second image is ruined by the person standing in line with the competitor on the left side of the image. You have an extra arm, leg and shoulder that don't belong in the image. I'd scrap this one.

Canon 7D, 5D, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L, 200L, 10-22, 17-55, 70-300, 100-400L, 500D, 580EX(2).
Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

thanks for the info. the first one will be cropped to take out the two mentioned. as for the second picture the shoulder and leg belong to a trainer who scores the points scored so, most shots he will be in

I think the point is, you need to get all of him or none, it just looks weird this shot.

As Acetoolguy stated, you need all or none of the trainer in the image. Having stray body parts in an image is just not acceptable.

Perhaps frame downward a bit more and get more of the mat foreground and less of the ceiling, which for me is distracting Try to get a clean shot without any spectators ruining the subject. In the first pic the kid's left foot almost blends into the girl behind him. This takes away the impact of the action for me bc im led into looking at the girl.

Frankly, a tough situation at best... way too many things in the image to distract the viewers!

The color is way too blue as well.

I've never shot anything like this, but i'd at least try a shallower depth of field to maybe blur the background a bit if possible.

My grandsons took Karate and it was always difficult shooting the sparing matches. I can't imagine using a shallow DOF because of the constant movement of the competitors and the small area in which you and they had to move (or at least that was the circumstances where they studied).

New lens or old you chose a challenge.

Here's a cropped version with slightly warmer colors and a quick (and overdone) background blur.

The only thing that got to me was the brown bag in the second image that I initially thought was a speed bag and I tried to figure out how a speed bag was hanging on the wall. Then I realized it was a lot larger than I initially thought.
