Has anyone made the switch and regret it? Is what I am reading about how much better the 6D picture quality is true?

Be careful of what you read here on POTN - A lot of it is hyperbole.

What one considers to be Huge or "Blowing out of the Water", another considers it to be negligible and vice versa.

Rent one for a few days and see if the differences are large enough for you to make the switch.

I did. High ISO (3200+) IQ was noticeably better but in good light conditions (low ISO) the IQs were identical.
The pattern noise in the shadow is much less on 6D as well.

The AF was more much accurate especially in the dark.

No regret at all.

6D + enough lenses for now.

I looked at it and at the time to move to a 6d was about an $800 hit, which was not worth it for me. I am glad I did not make the move as the Sony A7R fills my full frame needs very nicely.

I think that's going to be my next move..... A7R

Are you using Sony lenses with it or Canon with the metabones?

I really like the 24-70 focal lengths, but the reviews I read about the Vario-Tessar T* FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS were not very good. It's kind of scaring me off a bit. Have any experience with this lens?

As a 5DII owner I was interested and did some side by side shooting a couple times. For me the difference was so small especially below ISO6400 that it didn't make sense for me. If I had to choose between the two, I would have chosen the 6D as it is a better camera all around but coming from a 5DII, not so much.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

If you already have a 5d2 maybe not worth it, if you do not and want a ff camera then 6D all the way.

No weird banding issues either, at least so far.

A7R sounds interesting except for the glacial AF speed. I actually shot a soccer game the other day with my 6D for giggles and it turned out pretty well. ;) (I expect the 5d2 would have done equally well.)

you'll find yourself wanting to shoot in the lowest light settings. The high ISO is pretty damn incredible.

unless your pushing ISO 25600 files, you wont be having banding issues. The low iso improvement is definitely there. Did the switch at the right time and made money off of it. The smaller size makes the camera a pleasure to use. much better implementation of autoiso and bracketing.

You can still get a premium for the used 5D II body of about $1,200+ in good condition.
The 6D body as a refurb from Canon or brand new can be $1,500 or less.
To swap the used 5D II for a new 6D seems like a real win to me.
They recently had a deal at CanonPriceWatch for the 6D body and a Canon grip. :)

So far just my Canon lenses and my Canon mount Zeiss with the Metabones. The camera takes getting used to, but it sure delivers in image quality. Manual focus is so nice compared to a 5d2.

Actually if you use native Sony lenses, I understand the AF is not too bad on the A7r and pretty damn good on the A7.

I made the reverse switch...6D to 5D2....because the 5D2 better suited my needs. That's probably the most important part of switching to keep in mind. The 6D was a great camera by far, but the 5D2 better suited me.

Fits my hand better, found a number of times where I could use 1/8000 shutter, and I prefer cf cards, and it just felt like a better build to me.

I went to 6D after 5d2 because I needed the high ISO. The wifi feature is awesome for me as well when I want to do astrophotography as I can use my iphone to see how the camera is set up and review the photos.

Some of my feedback
