I just received a Quantum Instruments Battery Pack - Turbo 2X2 , this one here (external link)For the life of me, I don't see where I connect the battery pack to my camera. I have a Mark llN. The description says the cable fits 1D series cameras. On the left side of the camera (at the top) there is flash symbol; I thought it would connect there but it doesn't fit and I don't see another receptor for the cord. Was I shipped the incorrect cord (the SD6 came with the battery pack)? Does anyone have a pic or link as to which cord I should have (and where to plug it into the MarkIIN)?

Also, how long will the battery pack last powering both the camera and a 580EX flash [for the average wedding]?

Would you bother using the Quantum to power the 1D? I've read their battery lasts for some huge number of shots. I'd expect it would power the flash for at least an entire wedding. Hopefully someone else can answer your questions, I can't help sorry.

I think I need to use the coupler which came with the camera. The Turbo 2X2 plugs into the coupler and the coupler is a 'dummy' battery.

I have the Quantum Turbo 2x2, but a 20D. I am assuming you use the same battery as the 20D.

It comes with a cable that has a dummy battery at one end. The battery compartment will have a slot for the cable to feed out.

Like others have said, you probably don't need the Turbo for the camera - but for the flash. The nice thing about the Turbo is you can use it for both camera and flash. In order to use it for the flash, you need to purchase a separate cable.

Oh yeah, the Turbo will last for a wedding. I set up my camera, flash w/ turbo and used a PW w/ the pre-trigger cable set to keep the camera on at all times. It lasts about 16 hours that way. That's constant drain for 16 hours....

That is correct. As far as # of shots you will get...totally depends on how powerful the flash is for each shot. Chances are you won't run out of juice during a standard wedding reception. I use my 2x2 to power only my flash during events like that, and the last one, where the flash use was around 4 hours didn't even take the pack down to 50% (using a 550ex flash)

Thanks. Do you find the Quantum Turbo is overkill? I was in conversation today with a top Canon shooter and he said the CP-E3 works fine for him; and he shoots between 2K - 3K images.

The CP-E3 works quite well, I have one but I don't use it for weddings. The problem is it screws onto the bottom of the camera, if you have a grip fitted it doesn't screw on any more. You can't leave it clipped to your belt because the cord's too short. That leaves the option of attaching it to your flash bracket or holding it some other way. I just gave up and didn't bother.

No...I don't think it's overkill. It's nice to know I'm not going to run out of flash power. And, heaven forbid my camera battery dies, the 2x2 has enough power to get me through to the end. It's a nice safe guard.
