i'd like to have something as close to Lightroom as possible - being able to use a brush to selectively paint over portions which i want the effect to show through/control the flow of the effect.

i understand Nik has uPoint, but the control and speed doesn't come close to LR at all. is there any other LR equivalent for HDR? what i currently do is to output multiple HDR images and then blend them manually in PS CC, which is extremely time consuming. :(

LR will open 32bit TIFFs. As far as your blending multiple HDR images, I don't get it.

the effect you get from blending normal TIFFs vs HDR-ed images is different. for example, it appears to be more detailed+has more DR than if you were to process the same image in LR using +sharpen and adjusting the highlight/shadow sliders.

Oh, I thought you meant you were blending multiple 32bit images (HDR images) not blending multiple LDR images made from HDR files.

If you want to blend anything, LR is not going to be the tool of choice - it does not do that. Photoshop or an image editing application that permits the use of masks is what you will want to try.

If you use a Mac, Marscaper HDR permits the user to paint in, using local adjustments (like LR), the content from any of the original images used to create the merged HDR.

But, again, it sounds like you are trying to blend LDR, tone mapped images. LR is not an image editor.

hmm, think there's a misinterpretation of the scenario.

yes, now i am blending multiple HDR images together because there is currently no HDR software that allows me to selectively leave out/tone down part of the effects.

I mentioned Lightroom only because of the specific feature it has - the targeted adjustment brush that we can use for all our LDR images (not HDR).

now, the question again - is there any HDR software that has this targeted adjustment brush (or equivalent) feature? this is so that I can save myself from further processing them in PS CC, saving me loads of time.

thanks for your patience.

I am missing your point big time. You are saying that you are blending multiple "HDR images" but an HDR image is a 32 bit file with a potentially very large dynamic range. Why you would need to blend multiple HDR images together to tone down parts of a scene is beyond my understanding.

There is no HDR software that I am aware of that will accept multiple 32bit files and permit you to blend parts of each image using a brush or any other tool - other than Photoshop/After Effects.

What I am guessing you are saying is that you process an HDR image into multiple, tone mapped LDR versions each version having part of the scene processed in a way that you like - then you blend the "good" parts of each LDR version into a single LDR composite.

HDREfex2 has control points but you have commented that it does not work the way you would like it.

SNS-HDR has masks that permit you to apply different tone mapping settings to different parts of the HDR image.

maybe this is what you are looking for? PC only.
