What these images lack in quality, they hopefully make up for with content.
I wish I wasn't such a slow learner when it comes to post processing. Or everything for that matter :-)

Thank you John and Cheryl.

I forgot to mention the best part. The little ones usually make a low pitched buzzing kind of sound. Tonight, while waiting for supper, the little girl got impatient and started a high pitched "wok wok wok" call for her parents. I had no idea that they could call like that as such a young age. It was loud and it was amazing.

The story is pretty amazing. We all know your contending with natural light, high ISO and a wide open lens. I think these shots are awesome.

You've got us all on the edge of our collective seats Barry, and we're loving every image you bring us; and they seem to only get better.
Again, what a unique family portrait w/Dad doing his duty in your 1st image. Your 2nd image is simply to die for. Not only your unique opportunity and access to these growing youngsters, but the image of the little boy and girl hanging out of the nest cavity.....adorable! I think this is the first image where I could tell the genders of the kids. Just your average American Pileated family....:)

Thank you very much Bret. Tripod, cable release, and all the hints I can get are being used. Now if only we had a good photographer to use them . . . Thanks again!

I agree. The pictures don't do them justice. Thanks!

I feel like I've gone on vacation in my own back yard (o.k., almost my own back yard). In the past I've turned green with envy over other peoples pwp posts. I never thought I would get such an opportunity.

Thank you very much Steve. They have got to be one of the most photogenic creatures on earth. As one of my friends said: "Dr. Seuss couldn't have dreamed up a more unusual bird."
Thanks again!
