i was wondering if people swap out there gear for another brand!i no this is a real pain in the but,i only did it once back in 1989 when i went from nikon THE DARK SIDE to canon as i had to go digital any way at that time, and if i remember it was very costly even at that time and i don't think i would do it again any time soon ! how do feel about it,or maybe your thinking about trading your gear in and going to another brand! i would love to no just how people feel about this topic, thanks guys..

I just sold all my Canon gear, which included a gripped 5D2, 35L, 50L, 135L, 16-25L, 24-70L, shorty-forty, and 580EX II...all in favor for Fuji.

Wasn't that big of a deal and since I bought most of my gear used, I didn't lose much in the transition.

I have never really thought about it. Mainly because the only viable alternative for me is Nikon. I have tried the D800e/D4 and two of their SuperTele lenses, they do not attract me at all. Though they were very good my Canon offerings are better for my (wildlife) purposes - now a D800e + a 14-24 mm?

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

I'm a Canon guy, never had the urge or desire to bat for another team. I put a lot of research and thought into my decision to buy Canon before I ever laid one dollar down.

My sister shoots Nikon. She may not feel the same way about her gear.

She flew cross country from the east coast recently to vacation in Lake Tahoe, Ca. with family and friends, only to have her relatively new camera stop working the first day she was there.

She was a little less than pleased. Things happen.

They are both good brands from what I read from other owners, and it seems both have their pluses and minuses.

I can't imagine Canon ever falling so short, that I would consider another brand.

But, some will chase that next new feature or option, regardless if they have GAS or are truly so talented that their old equipment is holding them back.

Whatever the reason, to each his own. It all really boils down to choice, money, and being happy with what you have.

I swapped everything for Nikon, very happy. Still have a 7d & 40d here, but neither has been touched in over a year.

maybe because back in 1989 they where moving over to the digital age and making room for dslr's therefore film cameras where becoming old,all i no is i didn't get much for my old film gear at all,i had 2 nikon f4-S that i had paid over $1600. each,i think i got maybe 600.for the pair and all of my nikkor lenses took a big hit to! in the end i was not real happy and it left a bad taste in my mouth all these years latter, going digital to digital today would be more of a trade and not a downgrade in cameras like film was even if the brad is different, lets not forget we have the internet now to and selling your gear is a little easier to do!

Local shop lrnt me a 5d3 for a day ehen they first came out, it was good but not a great leap forward given the price they wanted. A couple of weeks later I was Hawaii, got a call from a friend in Toronto who used Nikon professionally, she was heading to Indonesia for a shoot and she told me she had a couple of new cameras I would want to try. She'd visited me in Idaho a couple of times with her Nikon stuff, trying to convince me to switch, I tried her stuff, didn't see any reason to switch brands. She stopped in Hawaii on her way to Asia and had two D800's in her bag. I put a card in one and with her helping with buttons and setup I tried it for a couple of days. She took off, and a couple of weeks later I went back to Idaho and loaded the images on my Mac. I was shocked by the usesble detail in the shadows, and I didn't have any banding. I pre-ordered one that day and got it in about 8 weeks. I planned to use it for landscape and ordered with the 14-24. It didn't long to find I could use it for lots of things and the Canon stuff was sold.

 I don't know about Nikon, but Canon "went digital" in 1995; with a Kodak digital back. Nikon came out with the e2 at about the same time using a Fuji sensor. I really wouldn't call those "going digital" as there were low volume, specialized products. Certainly in '89 (right after EOS came out) photographers weren't "making way" for digital cameras.

Sell everything, just for buying new stoff with another brand is no option for me. It would be way to expensive. And it would take years to find and collect all the stuff.

If my house burns down, with all my stuff inside, maybe I will be buying into another brand. I hope that will never happen.
