I haven't had any issues with access to the lighthouse for milky way shooting. I know it wasn't an issue in the off season, but if the grounds close they usually rope off the entrance. That hasn't been the case so far this year. Also, I just looked back and the second picture was taken about 3:30 am on 6/7. My only advice would be to bring bug spray!

thanks for the info!

i see they are offering full moon night tours up into bodie, hattteras and lookout lighthouses this summer.

and i'm well acquainted with hatteras skitters, i've donated generous quantities of blood there over the years! :D

great shots!

I was just there on the 31st and 1st for a wedding up in Southern Shores. I am from Orlando and knew I would be in a good spot for some dark sky shots and found Bodie was the perfect spot. Having never been there, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get in (went around midnight), but nothing was closed off and I just drove in and parked in the lot. Went by myself on Sat and took some family back on Sunday. Saw someone else shooting there too. Hope to post something soon. Still working on pp.

Both shots are excellent, though I agree the second is outstanding. You did a good job catching the streams of light from the beacon.
