So I believe I have some dust on the focusing screen and watched a few tutorials online and I would like to clean it, but I am unable to find the tool that comes with the focusing screens if you replaced them.

So does anyone know where I can buy that tool and a cheap/decent blower/puffer/whatever you want to call it...?

Not all focusing screens are user-removable. What make and model camera do you have?

The only place I've seen the tool is with an alternate focusing screen. You get one tool for each you buy, so I have a few now... Screens are pretty cheap, so why not get one you feel you'd have use for?

$30 isn't that cheap just so I can get the tool. I may just have to get a set of tweezers that have a rubber tips.

^^^Good advice.

Review the thread at http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1131064 (external link) noting in particular the the OP finally decides to buy a "spare" screen for two reasons; he gets the proper tools and the likelihood of screwing up the original (if you never changed a screen) is relatively high.

$10 on ebay from Indy, only 3 left... bonus if you have a recent 1D body... but good price for just the factory tweezers if nothing else.

That's why I suggested getting a screen you feel you have a need for.

If the $10 EC-CII screens offered by Roberts Camera are gone, it shouldn't be hard to find an alternative. You just need to release the carrier (easy enough to do with a fingernail even, and just as easy to push back down to latch). The screens have small tabs, you just have to be able to grab one of them. If you get a flat tipped tweezer and dipped it in plastidip to coat the tips, you would have something that would easily pull out the screen, or replace it.

This set would most likely work as well, and it is already plastic, not sure of how much grip they have though.

How anyone could screw up replacing a focus screen is beyond me... It's serioisly as easy as changing a lens imo.

It's really not that hard to change a screen, but make sure you don't touch the surface of the screen with your fingers. You will leave human grease, and the screens aren't easily cleaned (typically solvents ruin them). Hold the screen only by the edges (like a vinyl record), or, using the special tool, by the tab.

Don't set the screen down on a dirty or rough surface. Either use the supplied prop in the plastic box, or set it down on a clean lens cloth.
