My 24-70 II is not quite as sharp as it should be

The sharpness of the 24-70 II is wonderful . . . until you get outside of the center. At least on my copy. Left and right, by as little as the 1/3 mark, at 100% magnification, the image takes on a doubled up appearance; not so much like OOF but more like motion blur. I did some shooting this week and at f6.3 I still experience the same issue.

Soooo, before sending it off to Canon for a look, I'm just wondering if others have experienced this and what Canon may have told them about it.

Samples would help to confirm, but that doesnt sound right. My copy is very sharp to the corners, even at 2.8.

Have you ruled out field curvature? If so, it's worth a check at Canon or an exchange.

I had problems with my first copy of the lens, AF related...

The second copy is perfect...

My original 24-70 exhibited those problems. My version II is great.

Canon's usually not prone to those issues. My copy is just perfect.
