I've just gotten my hands dirty with Manual. This is just taking pictures of my friends kids while out at the park.

If you want detailed critiques, you'll find greater response if you post only one or two shots per thread. Lots of members don't have a lot of time to do justice to several shots and move on without writing anything about any of them.

The child shot is endearing. However, the focus looks a little off. You don't need all that empty space around her.

The portrait is a nicely done capture of a pretty face. Think about taking her off center just a bit, so that she's inclined more toward the middle of the photo. It seems a little tonally flat, meaning that it lacks contrast.

I see that it's your first post. So welcome to the forum. Be aware that there are some skilled photographers here who when asked to critique a shot will do exactly that. So sometimes you need a tough skin. You will not see a lot of "OMG! its GR8!"

#1) I like the idea, but maybe a little lower angle and it seems under exposed.
#2) Looks more like a shot of the weeds since they are in focus and the car is not
#3) Again, like the idea, but you don't see much of the childs face and looks underexposed & soft
#4) Like joedlh said, nice shot, but it does look soft and lots of "space" that is not needed
#5) Nice portrait, but the lighting is off and underexposed

I am not professional by any means, but this is a GREAT site to learn from. Keep shooting, keep posting and remember, don't take comments personally. They can be harsh at times, but sometimes that is what we need to hear. Welcome to the forum.

So Joe and Larry posted ahead of me. Damn, I wish my name was Moe...

Anyway, what they both said is absolutely true and on the mark. I'd add that in #1 it doesn't seem like any of the roller skates are in focus. I like that you're looking at things from different angles. Keep that up!

Welcome to the forum. Lots to learn here. You might want to go to your control panel on the forum and list your city or town as your location. You'll be surprised at how many POTN members might live close to you. Also, consider turning on "image editing okay" so that we can tweak your shots and show you the results, if you like.

Welcome to POTN. I like the fact that you used different angles to get your shots from. I also liked the shot of the rusted car. I like the technique where the foreground is in focus with the background slightly blurred. Good going!
