Oops, didn't see I was in the Weddings and Other Family Events Talk section. Answered the poll already.

Anyway, the 100mm f/2.8L IS is a tough macro to beat, but a shorter focal length wouldn't be bad for static, non-bug stuff :)

Canon 100mm F2.8 L IS Macro. However I also use my 90mm F2.8 TS-E with an extension tube on it and I also use a 24mm F1.8 Sonar Zeiss on my Sony A7r which gets pretty darn close too.

What? It's not a bad focal length for portraits, and very sharp. Decent for just general photography on a FF. The only reason I don't use it more for that, is my 70-200 has that range covered, and is also very sharp.

Tubes. I dont shoot that many macros to justify paing the money for a macro lens.

I shoot with the 50mm Canon compact connected, as needed, to the life size converter. I know some folks find the lens focus mechanism to be noisy, but so far I haven't scared away a single wedding ring yet. :)

Canon 6D, &7D T1i, Canon 24-105L, 17-40L, 70-200 F4L IS, 50mmL, 135L, 200 2.8L, Sigma 50mm original, Tamron 150-600, some Lensbaby gear
