Im always on my road to try new things in photography. Recently i saw infrared images and they fascinated me once again. So i know i have to send my camera in to remove the infrared filter (or DIY but no clue how).

Now since im only using my 650D when i want more reach with my 70-300 and still this is very rare, i thought about converting it to an infrared camera.

Is it a shame that i want to do this with a fairly new camera? What if i dont like the infrared effect anymore? What if i want to use my camera but cant bevause the infrared effect doesnt match my intention at certain moments?

But still very curious to try it out.. Help! :D

Heya,

I don't see a problem with it.

Once you go infrared, you may also start a spark into astrophotography.

Very best,

If you're not using the camera anyway, why not? Nothing shameful about it IMO, it's your camera, do what you want with it.

I converted a T2i to IR and portraits from it are amazing. I think you'll be surprised at how often you'll reach for your IR camera.

Having LiveView would make shooting IR so much easier. I had my 20D converted many years ago and I wish for liveview every time I use it (which is, admittedly, not too often).

Pretty extensive thread on this topic at https://photography-on-the.net …01943&highlight=lifepixel. Note that there are some suggested vendors that do the conversion. At least one of the ones I posted to the thread have online samples of results as a function of what filter you ultimately chose.

If you don't like it, you can always sell the camera. I'm sure there would be someone out there willing to pay for an infrared converted camera. It may actually increase the value of the camera since there aren't many out there.

I converted my 60D to full spectrum and purchased screw on IR filters. To have the camera act like a "normal" 60D I also purchased an Astronomix clip in IR blocking filter. It's supposed to be the same strength as the original Canon filter. However, with the clip in filter, you cannot use ef-s lens. Also opted for the sensor cooling option to reduce noise at longer exposures. Conversion was done by Spencer Camera.

Why not pick up a cheap IR converted camera and keep your 650D for when you don't want IR.

Either this, or grab a cheap body(T2i) and convert it. Sounds like you will miss having the crop (non-IR) body, for the "reach".

I recently bought an XTi IR converted body on the forum and although it would be nice, well, really nice, to have Live View I only paid $300. The conversion from Life Pixel, is $275 so the body cost net $25.

I love IR, but I wouldn't want it as my only option.

You could also get a Hoya R72 filter to use for a while until you're sure that IR is what you want.
