Does Canon's Remote Capture software work with the T3? I need to buy a camera dedicated for a specific task that requires live view and tripping of the shutter from a computer.

TIA.

It is pretty easy to do this wirelessly. You can get a TP link wireless router and run custom software on it, and then use a $9 app (for android).

For an example, see my signature for what that device looks like.

If you want a tethered option, the EOS Utility should work in tethered mode

6D is probably more than you want to spend but the build-in wifi feature works fantastically for what you are talking about, and you can do it from your smart phone (live view preview & remote trigger).

Well, back to you: by "remote capture" do you mean via a USB cable, or do you need wireless? With a cable, USB Utility should work great with your camera. For wireless, you'll need to jump through some hoops!

At least with respect to version 2.9 of the EOS Utility, the T3 is not listed. See bottom right corner of the attached page from the EOS Utility manual.

Having said that, the Japanese site for the Canon EOS Utility lists the T3 as included with version 2.14.0 so probably worth a shot...

John, I should have done this sooner, but I just checked the 2.11 manual and the T3 is listed. So, I think it's good to go.

Thanks.

Yes, I also checked the latest manual (2.11.0) and it seems as though the T3 was added sometime after version 2.9.

I recognize that shape; is that same as CamRanger? I know Mike Kelley uses them for his architectural photography but they look identical. Re-badged TP Link?

n/m looks like it is.
