Things are changing. The 7D Mark II does have an intervalometer. So does the 5DS and 5DSR. Maybe this is the new standard from Canon.

anyone knows??

I see 2 answers already posted.

1 - Intervalometer.
2 - Magic Lantern,. (which has intervalometer function)

You said you don't want intervalometer function but that is what will allow 10 consecutive shots, so I think you really do want it.

3. Any el-cheapo wired remote.
4. Burst mode and hold the shutter button down.

No need for hacking the firmware. No need to spend more than $20 for a shutter release.

Geokras, the problem I see with your suggestion is that for it to work the OP would need to keep the remote pointed at the camera, so it would be in shot. I assume that the OP's mention of the 'Self' timer means he is taking pictures of himself, but I could be wrong. Intervalometer or EOS app should work.

yes you're right, i'm taking self-portraits and don't want the remote to be in the shot (or having to aim the IR sensor everytime i want to trigger a series of shots).

I've checked out the intervalometers and they seem to be

1. bulky
2. wired

compared to my simply IR remote. Is there any smaller alternative I can consider?

Thanks!

You can set the intervalometer to start taking pictures after a set delay. If it takes you 10 seconds to get back in place, set it for that amount or longer if you wish. The remote will be with the camera not in the photo.

Exactly. Maybe your post will be the last time it needs to be said before he checks to see if it works for him. Honestly that is the only feature I use in the EOS desktop app other than an occasional import from camera that isn't going to my regular workflow.
