OK, I can't seem to figure out how it works with the battery door on the camera being open... the battery door seems to be in the way so I guess I need to go back and look a little closer.

For the battery doors, there's usually a tab or screw that you can pull to release the door. Most battery grips then have a clasp for keeping the camera's battery door on the grip.

bw! the door must be removed from the camera as stated here... don't loose your door, you will need it if the grip is removed.

OK, thanks.

I was thinking the door would come off for the grip to fit right.

You know, the contacts on the end of the BG-E8 battery grip does not look the same as the contacts inside my T5 camera and it physically does not act as though I can slide it in anyway.

It doesn't appear that this battery grip is going to work. When I look at the T3i and the T5 the contact points down inside are different.

When comparing the OEM battery for these two cameras, the contact points are different as well.

As I look around, I'm seeing instructions for the BG-E8 battery grip saying it is for the Rebel T4i, T3i, T2i and nothing is said about the Canon EOS Rebel T5

Is there a different Canon batter grip for the Canon EOS Rebel T5 available?

I've tried skimming and do see it's quite confusing about which Rebels the BG-E8 works with. I'm not sure if it works with the T5, and Canon might not make a grip for the T5. B&H is suggesting this 3rd party grip....it says it's specifically for the T3 and T5:

OK, thanks. I was hoping to get a battery grip that takes AA batteries which would be easy to obtain if not able to recharge OEM battery.

This link has one that appears to take two OEM batteries.

Yes, they are different. I like checking out dpreview for comparing specs of cameras:

http://www.dpreview.com …t=Chronological&view=Grid (external link)

It does look like the T5 has different contacts then the T5i (and therefore needs a different grip). B&H is only listing that Vello grip for the T5

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ttery_Grip_For_Canon.html (external link)

When you look at the photo, you can see the grip for the T5i has different contacts/functions:
