OK, I got this from QVC who had a good deal and I could have sworn they said it was a T5i... so they do have the 30 day return thing which I'm doing now.

So, where are the good deals on the T5i ?

There is no Canon Battery Grip listed as being usable on the T5 camera. Perhaps an aftermarket version exists though?

There are third party grips available for the SL1, T3, or T5 but they have some problems because they are a "Band Aid" solution:

1) The SD card slot is in the battery compartment so you must remove the battery grip in order to change the SD card.

2) There are no connections in the battery compartment so a separate external connection must be added for the shutter button on the grip to function.

3) Other than the shutter button, there are no controls on the grip itself.

If you can live with these limitations, you can find third party grips on eBay and elsewhere.

Good choice going for a T5i. The T5 has too many features stripped out.

I would buy from a reputable dealer like B&H Photo or Adorama. Trying to save a few dollars can sometimes cost you more money in the long run.

Be careful when shopping for a deal because some retailers will play games with you. If you are buying the kit, make sure you the 18-55 STM lens that is supposed to come with it. The STM version is sharper and has a non-rotating front element.

I didn't know there was a T5 until this thread. At Canon's site, it does show up as "new".

Mine is a T5 not a T5i

Are these two different models?

I can't understand why Canon USA didn't keep the 1200D name. Kinda makes it confusing as there is a T5i on the market. Can't understand why Canon USA didn't keep the xxxD designation also. I find it weird.

Well, that's what I get for watching QVC!

I had the T3i and thru this board I noticed the T5i had some features that I wanted and since upgrading wasn't that expensive I had been thinking about it.

Them whilst flippin thru the channels I saw the QVC Canon Camera sale... and I could have sworn they said T5i instead of T5.

But, no prob... they have a 30 day return deal for $8.95 (to cover shipping) so I'll get my money back on that deal and get in to a real camera.

OK, I know I know... there's are other cameras that blow away the T5i but for me it's a nice step up so I'll be back to ask some questions from the resident experts here once I get this bad boy!

Yeah, that is what you get! My mom is a QVC addict, and I'm always amazed the *ahem* crap she gets. With electronics/cameras QVC pretty much sucks. I'd say the best places for authorized dealerships in Canon gear is B&H Photo or Adorama: Canon seems to be forcing everyone to stick with their prices, but both sites won't have any sales taxes for anyone outside NY/NJ and they try to toss a few freebies in "kits" for every Canon product.
