Does any have any experience with this extended warranty? I was thinking about adding it to my camera that I may purchase.

From what I've read if you have a problem with a piece of equipment with the Mack warranty on it and you send it in for repair they simply say "Impact Trauma, sorry you're out of luck" and then quote you some rediculous amount to fix it. I thought about getting one on a couple of lenses but in the end decided not to.

Mack Warranties are highly rated and sold by many companies and not just B&H. Its a matter of preference as to weather one wants to purchase it or not but I did on my XT body from Norman Camera _ kinda cheap insurance and helps to resell value.

Overclock. I was kind of thinking of the same thing. But it would be nice to have if it did fail.

Bluedog. The warranty states that the orginal purchaser only is covered. So that would not help in the resell.

Circuit City does have a damage warranty for about 90.00, but the camera costs a lot more there.

Its my understanding you can pay a $15 transfer fee with Mack. Its listed on their website in the warranty descriptions.

Maybe so. I was just reading the description at B&H. That would be nice if it did.

Do a search here and on dpreview for Mack Warranty and you'll find a gazillion threads on this topic.

Personally, while I've never bought an extended warranty on anything else, I have purchased Mack's on my camera equipment. I've also sent 3 units to them for repair and all were taken care of properly with no hassle, other than having to wait a minimum of 3 weeks.

Cheapest place i've found for these is www.compuplus.com (external link) . Their shipping charge is ridiculous, but total is still less expensive than I've found elsewhere even after that.

I just bought a Canon EF 24-105 lens for over $1100 and wonder if I can get a warranty on just that? I have a warranty already on my 20D but at the price of the lens, having something for that as well seems smart. Also, it would be best to have it cover damage from dropping or whatever [not my intent, but I'm going to be traveling and want to be ready for all contingencies] - any suggestions?

I got it with my 70-200/2.8. But not because I would want 3 years warranty, but because I bought lens in USA. Canon has USA warranty and International warranty (which you can't get in USA), and USA warranty is not valid in Europe. So Mack is only warranty I have on this lens, unless if I want to send lens to USA. But I do hope I will never need it :)
So if I would be in USA (or if I could get International warranty from B&H) I would be more then happy with normal Canon warranty.

I bought my lenses from B&H and my Mack warranties from Adorama (because they were cheaper there). One has 30 days to buy the Mack warranty and regustering online is a snap.

I bought the Mack warranty with my DRebel and was glad I did, had a problem last spring, sent it in, and got it back in no time at all.

I posted about it in this thread:

Hi primoz. The first time I bought a lens from B&H I chose the "imported" version, thinking that a Canon USA warranty (1 year) would be useless to me. The next purchase, I clicked on the "USA" link and found that "USA" items come with a worldwide warranty. The price difference wasn't much, so I went for it. Sure enough, the warranty card is a true Canon international warranty - and it does include Slovenia. I guess a Mack warranty would still be useful for a longer period.

I also got a 10-22 from Hong Kong and it claimed to have an "International" warranty which the seller assured me would be valid in New Zealand - but it is useless. The warranty is genuine and even labelled as a "Canon International Warranty" - but their definition of "International" doesn't extend beyond Asia.

The moral is, when buying from B&H choose the "USA" items if you are an international customer. If buying from Asia (e.g. through eBay) - don't trust the warranty claims.

If you just skip the whole Mack warranty and take out special insurance or get renters insurance...you should be covered. I paid 190 for the year for renter's insurance and all my equipment is covered against everything (theft, fire, dropping it in toilet, etc.) except for flood and earthquake. I called geico and they were the ones that set me up with it, although I believe it is through "American Banker's"

then you have no problems worrying about the validity of the warranty and whether or not they'll deem it your fault or out of their coverage.

my 2 cents.
