So, I realized last week that mine (I got mine new not refurbed) it came with the shutter noise set to silent mode (there are two of them) unless I accidentally changed it to that. I cannot really tell the difference between the two silent modes.

So, which do you guys use on your 6Ds?

I switched mine to normal without any slient modes enabled I guess I'm weird that I like to hear the shutter more hah

So for shutter life, which mode is best? Is the silent mode somehow easier on the mechanism or does it not matter? I actually like the normal shutter sound (i had a model say "wow, I can't even hear your camera" lol)

When I got my new 5DmkIII, it also was defaulted to silent mode. I don't know if there are definitive tests as to the longevity of silent mode. IMO, I think we sometimes get too caught up with shutter actuations ....an old camera is not going to blow up even when it goes past the rated actuations.

I haven't looked this up, but I would assume that silent might actually help with durability since it introduces a bit of lag in shutter and mirror. It's all relative though...if you like normal to hear a definite click of the shutter/mirror, then it will still last a long time as well!

Canon 5D mk IV
EF 135mm 2.0L, EF 70-200mm 2.8L IS II, EF 24-70 2.8L II, EF 50mm 1.4, EF 100mm 2.8L Macro, EF 16-35mm 4L IS, Sigma 150-600mm C, 580EX, 600EX-RT, MeFoto Globetrotter tripod, grips, Black Rapid RS-7, CAMS plate and strap system, Lowepro Flipside 500 AW, and a few other things...

That's an interesting take on it. I wonder if anyone has heard anything from canon about the issue

I have no idea if it will eventually cause any issues but I chose the silent mode for my 6D and like it. ;)
