Mix 600-EX and Elinchrom RX-600

Is there any way to easily fire both a few Canon 600-EX speed lights and an Elinchrom RX-600. What I am thinking of is a real estate shot with the speed lights inside and the RX-600 providing fake sunlight from outside. I have the Elinchrom remotes for their lights and the Canon STE3. Without buying pocket wizards or similar is there any way to trigger both?

I assume there is no preflash with the 600-EX in manual mode, if so it may be possible to have this work by putting the RW-600 into optical firing mode. Else some cheap Yongnuo triggers and not use the STE3.

The only way to use the ST-E3 on camera and fire the Elinchrom is to use either a PC cable to the Elinchrom trigger, or a pass through trigger such as the Phottix Strato II. It goes on the camera, the ST-E3 goes in its hot shoe and then a Strato II receiver is connected to the Elinchrom light(s).

Use a Phottix Stratos II transmitter and receiver ($100). The transmitter has pass through TTL which will allow for full functionality of your ST-E3-RT to control your 600EX-RT Speedlites in the Wireless RT system. Then you can use the receiver to directly trigger your Elinchrom or use it to trigger your Elinchrom transmitter if your strobe has a built in receiver (I do not know anything about Elinchrom flash units). In the following link I explain this setup. Just replace the 600EX-RT with an ST-E3-RT as at the time I posted this the ST-E3-RTs were not available.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks dmward for the answer as well. I knew there had to be an answer and I knew if there was that this forum would come up with it.

Have you considered getting an Elinchrom Skyport receiver to trigger the 600? It is fully compatible with the Skyports you already own. There is usually a used one on ebay for around $70 IIRC.

If you must use your existing equipment, you will need to use a PC cord to connect the Elinchrom transmitter to the camera with the STE3 in the shoe. Put the 600 in manual mode to avoid unpredictable results. Using a combination of ETTL flash and manual strobes is going to be very unpredictable while trying to over power the sun.

Skyports suck, I've got 4 of them. I've gone the Yongnuo route, works great, pass through with full camera menuing working my 580EXII, along with multiple Elinchrom pacs.

Do the latest YN-60X offer pass through? That's good news.

I have trigger various flash guns (not mounted to the camera and always no E-TTL) and my 600RXs all with Skyports from the camera and from my laptop. They have always worked well for me.

So I have the skyports that came with my Elinchrom lights. Am I to correct in understanding that I could cable one of these to the 600 and fire it?

Not the ones that go into the RX heads, but you could use the cable output on the Skyport Transmitter to trigger a hotshoe adapter to fire the 600-EX. Or buy the Skyport Universal radio and that could be used to trigger a hotshoe adapter on the 600-EX.
