Did you find plenty of birds that weren't too distant? About once a month they allow cars in for a guided caravan around the area. That's when we went. Lots of birds, but distance is a real problem. Most of the birds are very far away and my longest lens is a 400L f5.6. (Can't use a converter with it because my eyesight simply isn't good enough anymore to manual focus successfully.)
